We are looking for an experienced External Backup & Infrastructure Architect to support an internal IT organization in assessing, redesigning, and migrating its backup and recovery landscape. The role focuses on strengthening resilience, ensuring service continuity readiness, and guiding the organization through a controlled migration to a target-state architecture.

Job description

• Conducting a structured assessment of the existing infrastructure, including:
  • Backup and replication solutions (Veeam)
  • VMware-based virtualization environments
  • SAN / NAS storage systems
  • Recovery processes, documentation, and operational maturity
  • Identification of risks, bottlenecks, and single points of failure
  • Review of alignment with internal IT service continuity and audit requirements
• Designing a future-state backup and recovery architecture in cooperation with internal IT architects, ensuring:
  • Alignment with business continuity objectives
  • Compliance with defined RTO / RPO targets
  • Fulfilment of internal IT service continuity management standards
• Supporting and supervising migration activities from the current backup setup to the target architecture by:
  • Advising and validating technical implementation decisions
  • Providing best-practice guidance to minimize operational disruption
  • Offering hands-on support when necessary
  • Documenting key decisions and supporting handover to operations teams
• Providing optional short-term operational support in backup, virtualization, or storage environments, including incident troubleshooting during the stabilization phase, if required.
• The role requires close onsite collaboration with internal IT teams and infrastructure stakeholders as part of a short-term engagement.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an Infrastructure Architect or Senior Infrastructure Engineer with strong focus on backup and recovery
• Hands-on expertise with Veeam Backup & Replication
• Strong knowledge of VMware virtualization environments
• Experience with SAN / NAS storage architectures
• Solid understanding of backup, recovery, and business continuity concepts (RTO / RPO)
• Experience working in environments with internal IT service continuity, security, and audit requirements
• Ability to assess complex infrastructures and translate findings into clear architectural recommendations
• Experience supporting or supervising infrastructure migrations
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal IT teams
• Availability for onsite work and short-term engagement (up to 3 months)
• Immediate or short-notice availability preferred
