We are looking for an experienced Senior Smalltalk VisualWorks Developer to support and enhance existing enterprise legacy systems.

The role focuses on implementing business and technical requirements in Smalltalk VisualWorks, analysing change requests, estimating implementation complexity, performing unit testing, documenting implemented changes and supporting defect analysis in a complex system environment.

The ideal candidate has at least 4 years of practical experience with Smalltalk VisualWorks by Cincom and is able to work independently on existing mature systems.

Job description

• Implement business and technical requirements in Smalltalk VisualWorks.
• Work on existing enterprise systems developed in Smalltalk.
• Analyse change requests and assess technical complexity.
• Estimate implementation effort using T-Shirt sizing methodology: S, M, L, XL.
• Implement small, medium and complex changes in existing system components.
• Perform unit testing of implemented changes.
• Analyse defects and identify root causes in the existing system environment.
• Document implemented changes and technical findings.
• Cooperate with analysts, technical leads and other development/support teams.
• Work independently in a mature legacy application environment.
• Understand dependencies and possible impacts across multiple system components.
• Support stable operation and further development of existing applications.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of practical experience with Smalltalk VisualWorks.
• Practical programming experience in Smalltalk.
• Experience with Cincom VisualWorks is required.
• Ability to work with existing legacy systems and mature codebases.
• Ability to analyse business and technical requirements independently.
• Experience with technical impact analysis and effort estimation.
• Ability to estimate change complexity using S, M, L, XL / T-Shirt sizing.
• Experience with unit testing.
• Experience with defect analysis and troubleshooting.
• Ability to document implemented changes clearly.
• Strong analytical thinking and ability to understand complex system environments.
• Independent and responsible working style.
• Good communication skills.
